Give
It feels like I'm dying and the weight is killing me and bringing me down
I'm running out of time to figure out and make everything alright
I wish that you had known when I was lying there hurtin' so,
My heart racing, my head blown up and away
I wish that I had known then the simple things
I've no time left to own
The best that I can do is live
It's all that I have left to give
It's yours for the taking, life and love for making
Everything we have is ours to give
Now it's all blurred and burned up, I'm struggling to let the light inside
But where do I go from here and not forget the ones I love the most
This feels like it's sayin' something awful about the man I've come to be
As being is no longer enough
and if I'm near the end, it's just as easy to be lost as to be found
Feels like I’m dyin' from memories and times gone by
I’ve barely a melody left to hum with worn down wishes to spare
And mountains of days spent lying in despair, thinking about learning to fly
Searching for air broken on the ground that I cannot seem to bare
Think on my loved ones and the things that I've done to myself
and the beauty that's left at home I'm tired and I'm wasting days away
I want those better days that were above my crooked ways
And the message is all that's left to fear
Hope is a great grand thing and love is all I have to give
The best that I can do is live
It's all that I have left to give
It's yours for the taking, life and love for making
Everything we have is ours to give
I think I'll do my best to live
I think I'll do my best to live

Old Picture

Old Picture
Saw and old picture of a river and its soft bank
With green all around at what looks to be dusk
Saw it split in the distance like two futures, two come to pass
Water and land, ancient and alive
Far sun shedding light, to mask coming dark
Oh the river is the lifeblood
Or destruction and the flood
See a man staring into the middle at a tall tree
Standing alone and serene and still in a wind
Stuck there in the mud like unto the bitter end
A path is taken each day, can barely walk away
Though we are mostly blind, come what may
Oh the river is the lifeblood
Or destruction and the flood
I’ll freely spend my life, doing my damned best
To prove to you my words are true
I’ll fight thru the fog and drown before I fold
Everything and every little bit
I’m damn tired of learning lessons, of cleaning up my messes
Thru the years of my depressions, can’t take me away from you
Away from you
Oh the river is the lifeblood
Or destruction and the flood
Oh the river is the lifeblood
Or destruction and the flood

Sun & Rain

Sun & Rain
The sun is shining on my front door
Why do we hesitate when we should ask for more
You whisper Love in my ear
A metaphor is never enough
It’s been 10,000 years in the light of the dusk
We are bound by Sun, Mountain, & Rain
The sun is shining on my front door
The rain is pouring on my front door
The sun is shining on my front door
The wonder of time and the damage of lies
Will we trip on the truth, or is the truth a disguise
Dare we fear, our time is near
A metaphor is never enough
It’s been 10,000 years in the light of the dusk
We are bound by Sun, Mountain, & Rain
The sun is shining on my front door
The rain is pouring on my front door
The sun is shining on my front door

Ballad of the Butcher's Wife
Julie married his brother when her lover died,
Said he’d take care of her and the fatherless child.
Sharpening the knives, cleaning down the block,
Working everyday together in his butcher shop.
Blades cutting through the flesh and the bone,
And the bank sending letters gotta pay back the loan.
Meat stains her apron and the tears stain her cheeks,
That mascaras been’ running for week after week.
Here she go. Here she go now,
Here she go, oh here she go.
The sign reads "Fagan - Open morning ’til late,
Selling only the finest to put on your plate.”
Red and white awning running over the top,
On the corner of Main St. Legs, ribs and chops.
A worn wooden handle in her shaking hand,
As the sawdust soaks the blood from her second-choice man.
Boy finds her standing staring down at the ground,
And his scream breaks the silence of what he just found.
Where she go? Where she go now?
Where she go? Oh where she go?
Word from the bar stool, she’d been doing a line,
The rumor mill’s been working, hard double-time.
She answered the question when she stood on the stand,
“I just couldn’t go on living with a second-choice man."
There she go. There she go now,
There she go, Oh there she go.

Stop Me Now

Stop Me Now
The past few months mostly paying bills on time
I've been cooking more and more and eating better
Not sure about all the rest of my days
Worried they might be long gone and away
Miss my friends and my family, the way things used to be
Working at a middle way
Before my habits got in the way
What's gonna stop me now
What's gonna stop me now
Progress is too slow for those that want it most
Don't want to long for anything
Just move along with you by my side
And leave all the rest behind
Forgetting our past is not the way that it goes
Working at a middle way
Before my habits got in the way
What's gonna stop me now
What's gonna stop me now
Too introspective and alone in my thoughts
So here's a song about the gray inside of me
I remember your silly walk and your sweet laugh
Lying on our couch in our house
Dogs asleep everywhere and too much to drink
Late nights I hear the wind blow
Trees rustling down, shaking this house
Can't tell if I want to be lifted up or knocked down
Guess I'll close my eyes and dream of better days
Working at a middle way
Before my habits got in the way
What's gonna stop me now
What's gonna stop me now
What's gonna stop me now
What's gonna stop me now
