Julie married his brother when her lover died,
Said he’d take care of her and the fatherless child.
Sharpening the knives, cleaning down the block,
Working everyday together in his butcher shop.

Blades cutting through the flesh and the bone,
And the bank sending letters gotta pay back the loan.
Meat stains her apron and the tears stain her cheeks,
That mascaras been’ running for week after week.

The sign reads "Fagan - Open morning ’til late,
Selling only the finest to put on your plate.”
Red and white awning running over the top,
On the corner of Main St. Legs, ribs and chops.

A worn wooden handle in her shaking hand,
As the sawdust soaks the blood from her second-choice man.
Boy finds her standing staring down at the ground,
And his scream breaks the silence of what he just found.

Word from the bar stool, she’d been doing a line,
The rumor mill’s been working, hard double-time.
She answered the question when she stood on the stand,
“I just couldn’t go on living with a second-choice man."
